In summer the Valais knapwort harshweed flowers in Rottensand. For many bees this is the preferred source of nutrition. In addition, the high availability of open sandy soil provides the necessary space for nesting.

With a bit of luck the rare long-horned bee, which mainly occurs in Valais, may be seen besides the resin-using bee and furry bee.
