Für die Bevölkerung des Alpplateaus stellt die Wasserversorgung seit Jahrhunderten ein grosses Problem dar.… Eine Besiedlung und landwirtschaftliche Nutzung waren nur mit grossem Aufwand möglich. Seit 1950 erhöhte sich der Wasserbedarf durch das Aufkommen des Massentourismus im Aletschgebiet noch zusätzlich.
